The English Language Learner
Curriculum and Instructional Design (ELLCID) Project

The Professional Development Exchange (PDX) is a distance learning system that provides participants with access to a virtual learning community. Funded by a 3-year Training for All Teachers grant from the U. S. Department of Education, the PDX distance learning system provides members with a central online location for communicating and engaging with one another. Through membership in project-based workspaces, participants make use of the PDX chat, email, bulletin board, calendar, and file sharing functions. These functions are designed to support ability to communicate with one another, manage their online learning interactions, and share the products of their learning.

As a distance learning system, the PDX can serve as the sole source of interaction between participants in the professional development experience or can integrate with traditional face-to-face continuing professional development and coursework experiences. The unique design of the PDX provides opportunities for teachers and professional development providers to:

  • Participate in ongoing, collaborative professional development experiences.
  • Experience the delivery of professional development online, as well as in face-to-face instructional settings.
  • Tailor experiences to meet the professional development needs of individuals, schools, or school districts.

Use of the PDX by educators for the purpose of delivering teacher professional development is available via a user fee. To learn more about how to access this unique professional development learning opportunity, please contact Dr. Kelly Estrada at: Kelly.Estrada@sonoma.edu.
